Do you suffer from a loss of urine when you cough, laugh, sneeze, or exercise (often called a “leaky bladder”), urinate frequently, or feel an urgency to urinate? You may have Interstitial Cystitis (IC), which can affect women of any age, or be experiencing a weakening of the vaginal muscles, which is more common in women who have had a child, perform heavy lifting, or aggressively exercise. Dr. Gomez can perform surgical and non-surgical procedures to alleviate these symptoms.
Non-surgical treatments may include medical therapy, often referred to as “bladder installations” or “bladder treatments,” which involves inserting medicine into the bladder to reduce the urgency and frequency of urination, as well as a leaky bladder. Non-surgical treatments may also include ThermiVa™, which is a radiofrequency treatment of the vagina that increases collagen and elastin, thereby strengthening the vaginal muscles and alleviating bladder issues.
Surgical treatments include bladder repair, with the possible use of a “sling.” Surgical treatments are used for severe cases that are not treatable by non-surgical methods, and minimally invasive options may be available.
Both non-surgical and surgical treatments may be covered by your insurance. Dr. Gomez can discuss which option is best for you based on your symptoms.
